TikTok Ads: Is It Worth Investing in TikTok Advertising as a Small or Medium Business?
TikTok Ads - what it is, how much it costs, and whether it's actually worth it for a small or medium-sized business. We break down real budgets, cost-per-click and cost-per-impression figures, and speak honestly about who TikTok Ads is a good investment for - and who's just wasting money.

TikTok stopped being a platform companies need to justify their presence on a long time ago. Still, more and more small and medium business owners in Poland are asking a more specific question: does advertising on TikTok (TikTok Ads) actually pay off, or is it just another way to burn through a marketing budget?
In this article we answer that question without the marketing fluff - with real numbers, minimum budgets, and examples of which companies TikTok Ads makes sense for, and which it doesn't.
TikTok Ads - what it actually is
TikTok Ads is TikTok's advertising system, which runs on an auction model - similar to Meta Ads or Google Ads, but with an emphasis on full-screen video that appears in the user's natural feed. The advertiser sets up a campaign, an ad group, and the creatives themselves, and the system automatically selects an audience based on the chosen objective - website traffic, conversions, app installs, or reach.
The most important difference compared to other advertising platforms: on TikTok, the ad format has to look like natural platform content, not a traditional commercial. Ads that look like organic videos noticeably outperform polished, corporate creatives.
TikTok Ads - pricing. What does a campaign actually cost in Poland?
This is the question that comes up most often - and it's worth breaking the cost down into a few parts, because the ad budget itself is only part of the total.
Minimum system budgets
TikTok enforces specific, hard budget limits below which a campaign simply won't launch:
- Minimum daily budget at the ad group level: about 20 USD, or roughly 80 PLN in Poland in practice.
- Minimum budget at the campaign level: 50 USD per day, or about 200 PLN.
These are TikTok's system-level thresholds - they can't be lowered, no matter how small your company or budget is.
A realistic, sensible starting budget
The fact that a campaign will launch at the minimum budget doesn't mean that budget actually makes sense. For TikTok's algorithm to have enough data to "learn" from and get past the optimization phase, in practice you need noticeably more - a realistic starting point is around 2,000-2,500 PLN per month on media spend alone. You can try with a lower budget, but you need to be aware it will limit results and/or may not be enough to last the whole month of the campaign.
On top of that, you need to add the cost of producing video creatives:
- 300-800 PLN for a single UGC piece (user-generated content; the range can vary),
- 1,500-3,500 PLN for a package of 4-6 creatives prepared for a campaign.
Creatives need to be refreshed roughly every 2-3 weeks - burned-out material starts driving up cost per click and cost per conversion, so a one-off production run for an entire quarter is a mistake that will sooner or later show up in worse results.
CPM and CPC compared to other platforms
How does TikTok Ads stack up against Meta, Google, or LinkedIn?
- CPM (cost per thousand impressions) in the Polish market: about 25 PLN - higher than Instagram (about 10.81 PLN) or Facebook (10-15 PLN). TikTok is more expensive per impression, but it delivers them in a format that's harder to scroll past than a banner or a standard feed post.
- CPC (cost per click): 2.50-2.80 PLN - noticeably better than LinkedIn (10-11 PLN), but weaker than Meta, where CPC can sometimes be as low as 0.59-0.80 PLN.
The takeaway is simple: TikTok isn't the cheapest advertising platform, but in many industries it beats the competition when it comes to the attention a full-screen video ad gets.
Who TikTok Ads pays off for, and who it doesn't
Now that we know the costs, let's look at how the medium maps onto the product - in other words, which products or services have the best chances on TikTok.
When TikTok Ads makes sense
It works best in business models where:
- the product can be shown in a short, 9-15 second video (cosmetics, clothing, handmade jewelry, food delivery, accessories, small gadgets),
- the purchase decision is relatively quick and emotional, rather than a multi-week decision process,
- the target audience includes people aged 25-45 - by 2026, TikTok is already a mainstream platform in Poland, not just for the youngest users.
A realistic entry threshold for this kind of model is about 3,000-5,000 PLN per month (media budget plus creative production), with success depending on having at least a few, ideally a dozen or so, creative variants to test.
When TikTok Ads probably isn't worth it
TikTok Ads makes less sense in models involving:
- classic B2B sales, where the purchase decision is long, complex, and made by several people,
- services that can't be shown visually in any meaningful way in a short video,
- companies that can't regularly produce new creatives - a one-off set of videos will last a few weeks, not an entire quarter.
TikTok Ads - how to get started step by step
If, after reading all this, TikTok Ads still looks like a sensible investment for your company, here's a simplified process for getting started:
- Set up a TikTok Ads Manager account and fill in your company details and payment method.
- Define your campaign objective - website traffic, conversions, reach, or app installs - since this determines how the algorithm optimizes.
- Prepare at least a few video creative variants that look like natural platform content, not a TV commercial.
- Set your budget at a realistic, not minimum, level - as noted above, roughly 2,000-2,500 PLN per month to start.
- Set up conversion tracking - without properly working measurement, even the best campaign loses some of the signals the algorithm needs to optimize.
- Plan to refresh creatives every 2-3 weeks and regularly analyze which materials generate the most clicks and conversions.
The most common SME mistakes in TikTok Ads campaigns
- Too low a budget - launching a campaign at the absolute system minimum and expecting results comparable to companies investing several times more.
- A single creative for the whole campaign - without variants to test, the algorithm has nothing to choose from, and the material burns out within days.
- A corporate, overly polished tone - ads that look like a TV spot noticeably underperform on TikTok compared to authentic, "non-ad-like" video.
- No conversion tracking - without it, it's hard to tell whether a campaign is actually paying off, and the algorithm optimizes on incomplete data.
- Treating TikTok as an add-on rather than a separate channel - creatives copied 1:1 from Instagram or Facebook usually don't perform as well as material made specifically for this format.
Summary - is it worth starting TikTok Ads campaigns?
TikTok Ads in Poland isn't the cheapest form of advertising, but in specific business models - a visual product, a fast purchase decision, an audience aged 25-45 - it can deliver results you won't get at that price on other platforms. There's just one condition: a realistic budget (not the minimum) and regular production of new creatives, rather than a one-time investment and hoping the ad "takes off on its own."
